Resilient Bar 45mm x 13.5mm

Resilient Bar 45mm x 13.5mm

Product Code:
61540

Resilient Bar is a thin metal channel designed to substantially improve the sound insulation of plasterboard walls and ceilings. The channel effectively isolates the plasterboard from the studwork, eliminating 'direct contact' to dissipate sound which would normally be transferred through the frame. This system is easy to install and produces excellent results especially when used with suspended high mass ceilings. Each resilient bar is supplied in 3 metre lengths. Please see image for additional dimensions.

Galvanised Steel Resilient Bars

Resilient Bar Profiles are designed to improve the sound insulation of plasterboard walls and ceilings whether used in new build or in the improvement of existing constructions. The profile assists in isolating the plasterboard from the supporting surface hence reducing the area of contact and dissipating the level of sound transferring through the metal section.

Care should be taken to ensure that board fixing do not penetrate through the resilient bar into the timber joist as this will create flanking and reduce the performance of the profile.

Resilient Bar Performance

The choice of board will be dependent on the performance required for both fire and sound insulation.  Reference should be made to the National Building Regulations before commencement of work.

Method of Build

Fix resilient bars 90 degrees to stud work framing either to ceilings or walls.  Fix with the narrow flange to the bottom and the fixing flange to the top using the desired fixing, with exception to the top bar which is fixed with the fixing flange at the bottom.

For singe boarded systems install at 400mm centres, for double boarded systems install resilient bars at 600mm centres.  When installing to ceilings install resilient bars at 400mm centres.

Where abutting door openings cut and install resilient bar noggins between horizontal bars to allow plasterboard to be fixed at the required centres.

  • Are these resilient bars suitable for 2 layers of soundprooffing plasterboard fitted to a 9" brick wall and are they fitted vertically or horizontally?

If you fit the resilient bars horizontally they will hold up to 35 Kilo.

  • can we attach the resilient bars directly on to our existing boarded ceiling which has 9'' x 2" joists.

Yes providing the resilient bars are attached directly to the joists

  • sorry for this "stupid" question : when fixing a suspended ceiling, do I screw the pre drilled holes to the joists then the plasterboard to the "zigzag" flange?

There are no stupid questions here ! Yes you are correct screw the pre drilled holes to the joists then the plasterboard to the "zigzag" flange.

  • If you fit the resilient bars horizontally they will hold up to 35 Kilo.

Are these resilient bars suitable for 2 layers of soundprooffing plasterboard fitted to a 9" brick wall and are they fitted vertically or horizontally?

  • What lengths does that resilient bars come in?

All resilient bars come in a 3m length as standard.

  • Can i attach this straight to a brick wall then hang the plasterboard of this? Thanks

Yes you can attach the Resilient Bars straight to a brick wall then hang the plasterboard of it.

  • Are these suitable for 2 layers of plasterboard onto ceiling?

Yes - These Resilient bars are suitable for 2 layers of plasterboard onto ceiling - but at 400mm centres.

  • Which screws should I use to attach the plaster board to the resilient bars?

To fix the plaster board to the resilient bars please use Fine 3.5 x 32 Drywall Screws

  • Hi
I was going to overboard a ceiling with soundshield would it be better to use the resilient bar first? If so how much lower would the ceiling be? how do I do it and how much would it be to do 5x5m.
    Thanks

The ceiling will be 13mm lower.
If you position the resilient bars at 600 centres you will need approx 45 metres
Positioned at 400 centres you will nee approx 65 metres or resilient bars.

  • Sorry to be going over old ground, but Building Control have advised they require 2 x 15mm Soundcheck plasterboard fitted to the res bars (plus 100mm of acoustic insulation) in order to satisfy Building Regs. At 400mm centres, are these res bars capable of accommodating two layers of 15mm Soundcheck? Many thanks!

At 400mm centres the maximum load is 35kg per square metre.

Yes these bars can hold two layers of 15mm soundcheck. Where two layers of plasterboard are required stagger the joints of the outer layer and fix short edges to the resilient bar. For maximum acoustic performance ensure that the screws do not come into contact with the joists.
