The British summertime finally seems to be getting into full swing, which means that many people around the UK are taking the opportunity to carry out some perfect summertime home improvements. Here at Butcher’s Equipment Warehouse, we’ve got a great range of tools and equipment to help you get the job done right. And if you’re wondering where to start first, we’ve got a few suggestions…

Give the place a fresh coat of paint

Painting is one of those tasks that can seem quite intensive, especially if you’ve not had a great deal of experience. Happily, though, the warm weather of summer immediately takes a reasonable amount of effort from the job. The warmer temperatures means that paint tends to dry a lot faster, especially outdoors, and there’s less of a chance of rainclouds taking the edge off all your hard work. Painting doors and fences are especially popular tasks come summertime, as it’s one aspect of your home that can easily become weathered in the autumn and winter.

Engaging in some garden grooming

We talked recently about how useful sealing your patio can be, making it easier for you to clean and helping it to stay looking better for longer. While you’re doing that, it’s often worth giving the lawn a quick trim, and weeding any flower beds - especially out front! Some homeowners and professionals take the opportunity to lay new gravel and other aggregates down in summer, and if there’s any garden furniture that needs a bit of TLC, now’s the time to do it!

Revamp the garden decking

Decking sees a lot more intensive use in the summer, and given how much punishment it can often take in the autumn and winter, it’s important not to neglect it. The first step is sweeping it, and it’s worth thinking about using a putty knife to clear out any cracks and crevices, too. If the decking has become discoloured over winter, often a fresh coat of stain or decking oil can help restore its beautiful shade. On the other hand, if your decking boards are weakening or otherwise showing their age, it might be an idea to replace a few sections entirely, or strengthen them with the metalwork and fixings in our decking range.

Clean out the guttering

Speaking of home elements that can see their fair share of punishment in winter, when the good weather finally gets started in earnest, it’s a good idea to quickly shimmy up a ladder to assess the state of the guttering. If the drainage system is packed with leaves and mud, it can often end up causing problems to do with water damage, so ensure that any of these blockages are dealt with promptly. While you’re up there, it’s a similarly good idea to evaluate the shingles for any wear or damage.
